About the event

This Vision Quest is a powerful spiritual training and opportunity for us to learn to be guardians of ourselves, and thus serve others through this act. It is a rite of passage in various indigenous cultures, particularly among Native American tribes. It is a ceremonial practice that involves a solitary journey into nature, usually undertaken to seek spiritual guidance, clarity, and insight. The process often includes fasting, meditation, and prayer, and it is usually conducted in a remote, natural setting away from the distractions of daily life. During a vision quest, participants typically spend several days alone in the wilderness, often with minimal supplies, focusing on introspection and connecting with the natural world. The goal is to gain personal insight, receive messages from the spirit world, and achieve a deeper understanding of one's purpose and place in the universe.

Guided by Abuela Ana María Hoyos:

Abuela Ana María Hoyos is a co-founder and dedicated member of both the Council of Grandmothers of Colombia and the Council of Grandmothers and Grandfathers of Cauca. With over 21 years of residency at Eco-village Atlantida, she is deeply connected to the land and its traditions. Ana María is a Dancer of the Sun and the Moon, and she bears the altar for the Vision Quest "Weaving of Clans for the Nation of the Mother." Her spiritual leadership extends to promoting Sacred Walks and organizing pilgrimage offerings at places of power around the world. For the past 20 years, she has been a devoted bearer of the prayer of ceremonial foods and shares the sacred medicines of wachuma and chicha, offering profound guidance and healing through these ancient practices.

Suggested Sliding Scale Exchange:

$888 - $1,111

Includes:

  • 6 nights shared accommodations & meals (for those not questing)

  • Daily Mambeaderos & Inipis

  • 4 day Vision Quest (4 days fasting, no food, no water, ends with inipi. This process is for Visionaries and Supporters will be at base camp eating, hydrating and praying for them).

  • Closing Ceremony

In order to sustainably facilitate access to as many people as possible despite possible economic challenges, we are using a sliding scale system for suggested exchanges. We trust you to evaluate your economic situation, the value of what you will be receiving, and determine the most equitable exchange for your circumstances. Some guidelines to consider in choosing your exchange:

  • Higher exchange ($1,111+) covers all costs, direct and operational, allows for further investment in the church, and subsidizes those without the discretionary income to afford standard tickets. If retreat costs are rarely a concern and discretionary spending is abundant, you may consider offering a higher exchange.

  • The middle way ($1,000) reflects the true cost of the event. Those with discretionary income generally fall in this range.

  • The lower cost ($888) helps cover the cost of the retreat, but not all expenses. Those with limited discretionary spending may fall in this range.

When the lower tier is an obstacle to attending a ceremony, we will work with folks to offer extended payment plans, work exchange, lower ticket prices, and other solutions. If you need additional assistance please reach out to info@somossanctuary.org or (929) 333-4850 so that we can address your particular situation.
