Sacred Alliances

Who is Somos Sanctuary?
We are a team of experienced and highly trained guardians and musicians, dedicated to holding powerful, potent, and safe spaces for our communities. Led by Maya Martinez, Somos Sanctuary is composed of a diverse group of medicine carriers, healers, intergalactic beings, clergy, doctors, musicians, artists, friends, and family. We proudly represent and welcome queer and BIPOC individuals, fostering an inclusive and nurturing environment for all.
Our goal is to offer safe, educational, and empowering access to indigenous medicines, natural healing techniques, and sustainable health practices with integrity and care. We unite to help one another realize our fullest potentials through prayer and the creation of a sacred community. We deeply respect and honor the unique gifts, skills, and knowledge that each individual brings to our intentional community. Together, we share, receive, teach, grow, and learn, fostering a profound sense of unity and connection.
Our Mission
Through ceremony, prayer, and community support, we aim to activate our best selves, celebrating human experiences at every stage. Committed to global guardianship training, we empower individuals to be stewards of our planet, promoting a deep connection to the earth and sustainable practices. Our dedication lies in awakening the self into sovereignty, fostering interconnectedness, and building a world of harmony, justice, and sustainable coexistence.

Meet Our Global Alliances

The Fulni-ô Tribe of Águas Belas, Brazil, led by Cacique Itamar:
We have received blessings and initiations from this tribe and have been welcomed as representatives to share their ancient wisdom, medicine, and traditions. Our alliance involves a water project and initiatives to support the tribe's financial stability, including the sale of their exquisite ceremonial feather artistry.

Abuela Ana María Hoyos, co-founder of the eco-village Atlántida in Cauca, Colombia:
This 40+ acre property is recognized nationally as a sacred house of prayer. Grandmother Ana María is a co-founding member of the Council of Grandmothers of Colombia and conducts worldwide sacred territory activations and sacred walks. She carries the altar of Inipi (sweat lodge) and continues to hold biannual vision quests on her land - spanning for over 20 years. She is also a longtime supporter of the Sun and Moon Dances (which happen yearly on her land). Our alliance brought us together for a monumental historic event, called "The Return of the Goddess", uniting elder knowledge keepers and representatives from various councils to bless four medicine carriers, including Maya Martinez.

Tukuillapa (Alejandro Sanzon), Leader of the Tiqsi Muyu School of Medicines and Andean Cosmology: Tukuillapa is regarded as a Mayor (respected Elder), despite his young age in his 30s. Trained by esteemed leaders since the age of nine, he has become a beacon of wisdom on this Earth. His school hosts annual Tinkus, gathering hundreds of participants and indigenous elders from around the globe, and offers year-round trainings and dietas.

Elder Mauricio Gañan, Member of the Council of Elders of the Nine Snow Peaks of Colombia:
A beautiful Elder of the Río Sucio Embera-Chamí Tribe, and coordinator of the Peace and Dignity Journeys of Embera-Chamí, Mauricio Gañan has shared his enthusiasm for Maya's leadership and given his blessings and permissions, inviting Maya to serve his community.

Abuelo Arturo Soto, (Toltec Tradition), of Bacalar, Mexico:
Arturo Soto, a Curaca of the Toltec tradition, specializes in the traditions of the ancient peoples of Mexico. He has dedicated over four decades to studying and practicing these traditional methods and medicines for the healing of the body and soul, deepening his knowledge of medicinal plants, sacred ceremonies, and healing rituals used to restore balance and promote holistic health. We study ancestral ways, medicine making, and prayer offerings under his guidance.

Familia De Morey, led by Cesar de Morey of Los Mochis, Mexico:
A family of medicine people and founders of Samadi Ceremonies in Mexico, the De Morey Family has a reputable legacy of 25+ years serving participants in Mexico and abroad. We have received over 12 years of continuous training, initiations, and counsel.

Paulo Nacua of Pasto, Colombia:
For more than 23 years, Paulo Nacua has walked the path of medicine, learning and sharing the teachings of the southern condor and the ancestral wisdom of the Amazonian tribes. He also follows the Eastern Meditation Path, embracing the sacred teachings of Kriya Yoga brought to the West by Paramahansa Yogananda. His ceremonies create a space for prayer, invocation, and the downloading of tools for healing and self-realization. Paulo acts as a council and mentor to our leadership and has co-led multiple retreats with Somos Sanctuary.

Peter Blum, Woodstock, New York:
His work for almost four decades has focused on two areas: Neo-Ericksonian Hypnosis, and Shamanic Sound Healing. His book, TranceSonics - The Vital Link Between Sound Healing and Hypnosis reflects his pioneering work in these two fields, both separately, and where they overlap.
As a Certified Instructor for the National Guild of Hypnotists (NGH) since 1993, he has trained and certified hundreds in the art of hypnosis. Peter Blum is Maya's spiritual mentor and teacher in hypnosis.

Part of our strong alliances with these teachers, curanderos, and communities involves offering yearly pilgrimages for our participants to experience and learn directly from these incredible leaders, their territories, and their communities. Together, we share in medicine ceremonies, learn ancestral teachings, make medicine, and connect through prayers, stories, song, and dance, fostering deep alliances and love. Our purpose is to act as chakarunas (bridge-people), uniting the medicine of the South with the Medicine of the North - the Conor and the Eagle.

Meet Our Lead Facilitator
Maya Martinez, founder of Somos Sanctuary, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit plant medicine church, was raised in both Colombia and New York City, and has been on a life-long journey studying with indigenous teachers from Colombia, Mexico, the United States, and Brazil, where she was given the name Sakakatwa ‘Rainbow,’ by her family of the Fulniô Tribe. As a dedicated student, she continuously deepens her studies with the sacraments, and has learned many traditional ceremonial practices that help raise the vibration of the planet. It is with great honor, permission, and care, that she shares the weavings of this knowledge with those who are ready to answer the call and receive the wisdom and downloads that come.
